Thrift store finds

These first two plaques I found a thrift store last Monday.

The engravings still have the plastic covering on them.

This one below I found today. Written on the back: 1st Place Ozark Empire Fair, 1998. (Photo of Madison and Roscoe) Published. Photographer Kerry Foreman.

And, on the back, in a little girl's handwriting: To Roscoe from Madison

Read more about Roscoe Jones

This scroll I found in a Commercial Street thrift store. What do you think? Is that Powersite Dam or Bagnell Dam?

Gosh you had to be so careful driving N Hwy in either direction towards Boaz because they would be on the road in a mule driven wagon moving very slow. Many times I have come up over a hill and THERE THEY WERE....doing all of 5 miles an hour. Needless to say neighbors of these two men learned to go slow and watch for them.

One of my neighbors laughed and told the story that he had visited these two and they insisted he stay for supper. They killed a chicken and plucked it (kinda) and then threw the whole chicken, guts and all into a pot of hot water to cook. Little feathers, eyeballs, everything was floating to the top of the hot water. My neighbor DID NOT stay for supper.

Of course no one had ever taught the two men to cook so they did the best they could. It was just their way and the way they learned to survive.

Oh, they rarely bathed. The cabin smelled, and they smelled. Awful.
Nice guys, bad smell.

Anonymous 731, love the details; thanks for sharing. Once, long ago, at my in laws farm they killed a couple of chickens and prepared them the right way but I still could not eat any chicken at dinner that night.

The old guys from the Ozark Mountain Daredevil cover. What was their names. Cletus or was it Roscoe. It was one of the Dukes of Hazzard's Sheriffs. Weren't they murdered because someone thought they had money after doing the album cover?
