Overheard in Aldi's.....

A frequent bus rider related this encounter to me:

Yesterday afternoon (Tuesday)around 4:00 PM she was shopping with her two-year-old niece in the Aldi's market on Battlefield and Jefferson
As she was in the checkout line, with her niece sitting in the child's seat in the shopping cart, an older man, also in line (a veteran as she soon learned as the conversation progressed), started talking to the aunt and her niece.

The conversation turned to the cost of groceries, the economy and finally healthcare.

The man volunteered that he received his health care at the VA Clinic in Mount Vernon, Missouri.
Then, and I swear by all that I value that this is an exact quote- as related to me by the aunt--whom I trust implicitly--, the man said, "They're closing the VA in Mount Vernon and moving it to Springfield because Billy Long said they can serve more colored veterans here."

Well doggoneit, I should have stayed in MO so Billy Bongojerk could be my rep in DC and make a bigger jerk of himself than these clowns down here in blue hair land. I emailed a friend that works at the named facility that I used to work at, and ...... well I'll just wait and see.
PS don't hold your breathe waiting.

Colored folk or not, it appears Billy Long will get credit for something Jeff Wisdom and Michael Wardell proposed.

As long as there is an old soldier's home in Mount Vernon on the VA campus there will be a VA clinic there, donja think?

Moving the Branson Clinic to Springfield makes more sense.

Or letting veterans get medical care --on VA's dime-- at Cox or St. john's,,,,I mean Mercy.

Whooow, you have a good hearing then. You did do an eavesdrop thing there. Able to catch those details away from them. :D

Well, my 'bs' meter pegged out on this one. This idea of owing veterans for 100% of their healthcare and medicines, regardless of after service lifestyles, from the time they get out of the service until they die sounds like another of those gosh-dog, do-gooder programs that I don't want my tax dollars to pay for.

If the veteran has an injury in the service is something different but this pussyfied, post-tramatic stress syndrone is a well-planned, veterans clinic directed, in some instances, activity to keep people in the VA in jobs.

How many Asians does it take to make cashew chicken in Springfield, Missouri?

Anon 9:17-- are you a veteran?

Bus, actually the VET Home is south of town on it's own campus and the pt's are seen by the VET Home Doc.
Branson is there because of the number of vets that transverse Branson - there is a seperate walk in clinic there.
Fee basing out the coverage to Cox or Vatican is too expensive, although they do it occasionally (yours truly is an example of having Cox see me for back injury).
There are plans for putting a clinic in Spgfld and Joplin, but the budget process is such that it can take up to 10 years for Congress to get it approved...... guess BillyBonko can speed up that process, but at what cost?????? spending more for less...

Also to say VA care is free is wrong. Many veterans have a co-pay just like their civilian counterparts.
Medicine thru VA copay is twice what it is thru Wallyworld or CVS.
Also visits can be charged also.
So don't say VA care is free.... open mouth before knowing facts is just another BillyBonko incident.

@10:37, Yes sir, and proud of it, but I'm a believer that you and the taxpayer don't owe me anything.

Anon 8:01 --

I think different. You cared enough about our country to give up at least 2 years of your life in service to it, maybe more.

And, if you put boots on the ground in the following countries: ("m only listing combat operations since 1949 some IO don't know your age): China, Korea, Fomrosa, Vietnam, Egypt, Lebanon, Haiti, The Caribbean, Thailand, Cuba, Laos, Congo (Zaire), Dominican Republic (Marines landed 1965), Israel, Cambodia, Cyprus, Nicaragua, Iran, El Salvador, Libya, Sinai, Egypt, Grenada (remember that invasion in 1983, Operation Urgent Fury). Honduras, Chad, Persian Gulf, Italy, Haiti, Bolivia, Persian Gulf, Panama, Columbia, Bolivia, Peru, Philippines, Liberia, Saudi Arabia, Iraq, Kuwait, Zaire, Sierra Leone, Bosnia, Herzegovina, Somolia, Macedonia, Central African Republic, Albania, Gabon,
Guinea-Bissau, Kenya, Tanzania, Afghanistan, Sudan, East Tikmor, Serbia, Yemen, Côte d'Ivoire, Georgia, Djibouti, Pakistan, Nigeria, Uganda....
Then we owe you a big thanks and your self-modesty is misdirected.

For instance, the current congressman from MO7 never laced a pair of boots yet he will cash a payroll check for one calendar month (approx 10 working days) than most service members earned in a year.

You earned it. If our congressman can get superior health care for life at a reduced rate, so should you, my friend, so should you.

Creating another costly veterans out-patient clinic in Springfield makes no sense from either a medical or financial standpoint.

The VA has determined the VA Clinic in Mt. Vernon is not needed to serve the needs of the veterans population in the area. Medical services and availability has drastically changed since the out- patient brances of the NW AR, VA hospital were established. CoxHealth and Mercy Clinics and the clinics from CMH in Bolivar and the Joplin hosspitals now dominate the landscape in SW MO. The majority of veterans in SW MO, NE OK, SE KS and NW AR go to the VA hospital in NW AR if they seek VA medical services.

Veterans first preference is to receive medical care from a local provider, whether doctors or hospitals. A large percentage prefer the quality of service at hospitals in Springfield or Joplin or Branson (and we now know Branson is in financial trouble).

The Veterans Administration, like NASA and many other federal agencies, needs an overhaul from top to bottom to maximize medical services for veterans at the best possible costs. This will require limiting many area duplicated services and a redetermination of which services are to be made available to veterans.

"As long as there is an old soldier's home in Mount Vernon on the VA campus there will be a VA clinic there, donja think?" Does this statement make sense? Is your reasoning that it has always been this way and as such, should continue?

Just curious, does 'Tom' work for the VA? If so, I rest my case about the VA needing to be redirected.

And, the 'colored folk' comment is just dumb. I doubt Congressman Billy Long would say something like that and the older gentleman in Aldi probably did not either, which would make your source of this story a fabricator.

anon 10:09 -- your last paragraph-- "And, the 'colored folk' comment is just dumb. I doubt Congressman Billy Long would say something like that and the older gentleman in Aldi probably did not either, which would make your source of this story a fabricator."

You doubt Long would say things like that? I don't.

Neither you or I heard what the older gentleman in Aldi said. So you can't speak to that instance.

The only person, other than the woman's two year old niece, to hear the old man's remark had no reason to lie about it or, as you put it, "make your source for this story a fabricator."

You may be right.

You probably are a booze swilling, kool-aid drinking, tale-telling right-wing wacko and, as such, make comments that are asinine and dumber than a box of rocks.

I may be right, too.

Criticism is not a threat. Telling lies and making nasty comments about people is not threatening them. It's deplorable, mean-spirited, and represents a lack of intellectual ability, but it's not a threat.

Being an underachiever is not the fault of others. I sometimes wonder if bloggers are simply attention seekers. Most appear to be sad, sad persons without (a) a life (b) a love (c) friends (d) a limited sense of moral behaviour and, most importantly (e) a future. So, naturally they spend their day online shouting crap about and towards all different kinds of people, especially Congressman Long.

And, to correct your statement, "I am a booze swilling, kool-aid drinking, tale-telling left-wing wacko and, as such, make comments that are asinine and dumber than a box of rocks sometimes, who voted for President Obama."

I was wrong about that, too.

Anon 10:50---

When someone writes something you disagree with that does not mean their statement is false.

You do not believe that old man in Aldi's made a statement about 'colored veterans', that it was fabricated. That is your opinion and you are entitled to have your opinion. But your opinion about an event that you didn't witness and only heard about third hand doesn't carry much weight.

I sometimes wonder if people who comment anonymously on blogs are simply attention seekers. Most appear to be sad, sad persons without (a) a life (b) a love (c) friends (d) a limited sense of moral behaviour and, most importantly (e) a future. So, naturally they spend their day online shouting crap about and towards all different kinds of people that offend the likes of you who are in love with, taken with, charmed by, fascinated by, entranced by, fond of, enchanted by, captivated by, enthralled by, smitten with, besotted with, bewitched by, crazy about , infatuated with, enraptured by, wild about, swept off your feet by, nuts on, nuts about politicians who have no moral compass- in this case our congressman.

When Long said: "You catch a lot more flies with honey than you do with vinegar. So, when you tell stories about me through some of your representatives that I want to privatize the Postal Service, which is an out and out lie, that doesn't help you any with me or my office. So...." which is in direct contradiction to what he said during the campaign---

When Long
'fabricates' something like this, what else if he 'fabricating'?

There is no charge to ride the bus, no one is forcing you to get on. If you don't like the ride, get off.

Here's the deal.

We give the poor Medicaid. We give the old Medicare. We give the veteran healthcare.

How 'bout....either we give the working class (those who pay for everyone else's privileged status) healthcare too --- or we get rid of it for all.

THAT's what I'm waiting for. Will Obama's healthcare do that? Sure, for me it will at a HUGE price (almost $600 a month right now).

Does the elderly, poor, or veteran match that? Some Medicare patients do. Veterans and poor --- nope.

Give to all or give to none.

In addition, the poor rarely vote. The veterans vote primarily Republican---and we all know if it was up to the Republicans they'd get a parade but no healthcare AT ALL. That's a "private sector" job to the Republicans....charity you know. Yeah right.

I just want fairness in the whole mess. As long as we don't care for all citizens we should let everyone fend for themselves....only then will we see a change in attitude and coverage universally for all. When everyone wakes up with NO coverage, (Congress included)...everyone will agree to give decent affordable coverage to all.

Busplunge said...

That's universal healthcare. like.

Is universal healthcare a right, just like freedom of speech?
Like, no.
