City Utilities officials are proposing a 4.1% natural gas increase. The increase would add about $4.00 a month to the average residential customer's bill. Wes Johnson, of the SN-L, filed this report:Today, City Utilities announced plans for an 8.7% rate increase.Ray Ross, CU director of pricing, said the rate hike will allow CU to recover its costs of providing natural gas to its customers.Because we are using less gas, CU has to increase the price we pay for the gas to make up for less revenue coming in. CU customers also are using less gas, on average, than they were 10 years ago. Usage dropped 11 percent in that time period.
"Because of those factors we have less revenue coming in, but we still have fixed costs to operate the gas system that we have to pay for", Ross said.
He emphasized that CU customers' can still save money on their monthly bills by using less gas.
It's like $5.00 gas, we'll still buy gas, we'll just cut back in other places. We'll still use City Utilities, we just will take a little colder shower, run the thermostat a little lower and learn to like bologna.
And that, bus riders, is a lot of Baloney.

okay...let's get this straight... the utility company that serves the greater Spfld Mo area is raising rates because their sales can't cover their expenses...yet they are telling their consumers that if they lower their personal usage, their bill will be lower???
but wait, their sales can't cover their expenses now, how is that possible using the utility company's business plan...I thought Enron had a bad business plan, but it sounds like Spfld's utility company could have taught them a thing or two....sounds like when FPL called soliciting additional funds to develope alternative energy sources...this froma public heald company that posted 7 figure profit margins the previous five years....how do I get on the board of that company...
CU sounds like it needs to release their management board and hire a couple of local high school economic teachers to straighten out their business plan.....or maybe look and see if Tom and Jerry are available....
