Mission Accomplished
Five years ago today, George Bush landed on the deck of the USS Abraham Lincoln and declared "Mission Accomplished in Iraq".
Over 4,000 American troops have died, and the war has cost us at leat $3 trillion.
How sad.
As a side note, several years ago, an American soldier from Aurora was KIA. Bush was in Springfield on the day of the GI's funeral at the Aurora Armory. Bush didn't go to the funeral. He went to Bass Pro Shop, I know, I spoke to him there.

That's just pathetic Bush was in town when one of our fallen sons was being put into his final resting place and he couldn't break away from Bass Pro to honor him.
According to Drudge, the White House finally admitted screwing up with the Mission Accomplished banner. Talk about too little, too late.
I can't believe it took them that long to come up with that lame of an excuse that holds about as much water as a collander.
Missing the funeral...talk about being out of touch, sheesh.
I was standing by the shoe department at Bass Pro, trying to find a pair of tennis shoes that were made in the USA when I look up and saw W swaggering down the aisle. People were approaching him and shaking his hand.
I thought, "why not?" So, I stepped out and, as he approached me, stuck out my hand and he shook it.
"Howya doin'", he asked.
"I'm unemployed", I said.
He took a step further and turned and said, "Positronics is hiring, I just had a town meeting out there."
"How come you didn't go to Captain (Blank'S) funeral?" I asked.
He turned back away and walked towards the fishing gear.
Someone, I assume they were with the entourage, told me that if the President went to one funeral, he would have to go to them all.
I never did find any American made tennis shoes.
This happened in maybe the Spring of 2004? I can't really remember the date, but I remember the conversation.
"Someone, I assume they were with the entourage, told me that if the President went to one funeral, he would have to go to them all."
Perhaps he should.
No kidding.
At least if he's already in town where one is happening.
Then again, if he did, you know that he'd get blasted for polticizing a funeral. It's damned if you do, damned if you don't...although to me the don't is worse than the do.
When I was a kid, we used to play soldier too.
only nobody got killed.
