A Dang Few Thoughts On The Pythian Castle

The city has just issued their response to the ongoing Pythian Castle saga. You can read it here. Hat tip to Jason for the link. The library website has some old pictures of the Pythian Castle.
I have a vague recollection of the building being used previously as a school for children with developmental challenges. Here is one woman's memory of the Pythian Castle, or what was called the Pythian Home:

Pythian Home gave shelter: The Pythian Castle should be among the most important buildings in Springfield. I lived there for many years from 1928 until I entered high school in St. Louis. I had two brothers and three sisters who entered the home with me. It was a home for the elderly and for the orphans who had both parents dead or those who had one parent living. It was known then as "The Pythian Home." -Mildred Hall Cherry, Springfield
Pythian Castle has long been a historical landmark in Springfield, why the city or park board didn't buy it when it was up for sale, well someone must have been asleep at the wheel. The city should have bought it and turned it into the historical museum, which is maybe what they wished they would have done.

The daughter of one of my co-workers had booked the castle for her wedding. She already sent out 200 invitations that she paid several hundreds of dollars for. She is now planning to elope because she can't find a replacement location on the planned date.
