Chan Holcombe 1939 - 2011 R.I.P.


The following obituary for Chan Holcombe (1939 - 2011) was submitted to the Fort Smith "The City Wire" by Fentress Mortuary:

Chan Holcombe, 72 of Fort Smith passed away Thursday, October 13, 2011. He was born July 14, 1939 in a Log Cabin in Bates, AR to the late Ralph and Inez Holcombe and was circumcised with his Dad’s pocketknife. He loved to fish and caught a lot of crappie. He was an Air Force Veteran, a member of the Disabled American Veterans, and an Entrepreneur.

Funeral services will be 10:00 AM Monday, October 17th at Immaculate Conception Catholic Church with burial to follow at Holy Cross Cemetery. Arrangements are under the direction of Fentress Mortuary of Fort Smith.

He is survived by his daughter: Charity McCartney of Fayetteville, three sons: Jim Holcombe of Costa Rica, Doug Melkovitz of Little Rock, and John Greiffendorf of Lutz, FL. He is also survived by four grandchildren: China Holcombe, Kainoah Holcombe, Meg McCartney and Alyse Jeffrey as well as three great grandchildren.

Family will visit 2:00 PM to 4:00 PM Sunday, October 16th at the funeral home.

In lieu of flowers memorials may be sent to the Disabled American Veterans (DAV) 6000 Zero Street Ft. Smith, AR 72903.

Too bad that Chan's dad couldn't get a $95,000 loan from the City of Springfield for a proper circumcision.

I'm one of Chan's kids... I just have one thing to say; I am eternally grateful that the pocket knife in question was long lost by the time I came along.... ;c)
