I'm thinking it looks like a Packard Sedan from the mid-late 30's...hope you saw on an adventure that wasn't planned... and involved a leasurely tour down back lanes....
The emblem on the spare tire may be a clue. Did Chrysler buy Packard? I'll bet Bus knows what this vintage vehicle is, but likes to keep secrets. About 1935, most American made cars began to be 'stylized', whatever that means.
